Contractor CV template for recruitment agencies

A contractor CV is the agency's version of a contractor's CV, sent to a client with a submission for a contract, interim or freelance role. This Word template sets it out on two to three pages in the agency's brand: the contractor's name and headline; availability and terms up front (availability, day rate, IR35 status, location, remote working and security clearance, only as the contractor confirmed them); a short profile; key skills; technical skills by category; then project-by-project engagements with the client and sector, role, dates and duration, the brief, deliverables and technologies; earlier career; certifications and education. Formatix writes it from the contractor's CV and your call notes.

Contract desks reformat CVs all day, and the client always asks the same three questions first: when can they start, what is the rate, and inside or outside IR35. This template answers them at the top of page one and then lays out the engagements the way contract clients read them, project by project. It never guesses a rate or a start date from the last contract.

    Questions about this template

What should a contractor CV include?
Availability, rate and working arrangements at the top; a short profile; skills and the technologies the contractor actually uses; and the engagements, most recent first, each with the client, role, dates, duration, what the contractor was brought in to do and what they delivered. Certifications and earlier permanent roles follow.
Will it fill in a day rate or availability?
Only when the contractor's CV or your notes state them. A rate is never inferred from the role or the market, availability is never taken from the end date of the last contract, and IR35 status and clearance appear only as confirmed. When nothing is confirmed the panel says so.
Can the end client be kept confidential?
Yes. When your notes say a previous client cannot be named, the engagement shows the description you give, such as "A UK high-street bank". The contractor's contact details are never printed.
How is it different from the interim executive profile?
The interim executive profile presents a senior interim leader with impact cards and the consultant's view. The contractor CV is the everyday agency format for contract roles, built around the tech stack and the engagements. For public-sector framework bids there is also the consultant framework CV.
How are the technical skills shown?
Grouped by category in a short table, such as cloud, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, data or languages, followed by key skills as tags. Each engagement then lists the technologies used on that project. Only technologies the CV or your notes tie to the contractor appear; nothing is added because it is typical for the role.
    Can I download this template?
Yes. A free, editable Word version with neutral branding and three fictional example contractors is on this page, to fill in by hand. To have it rebuilt in your brand and written automatically from CVs, use it in Formatix; what you keep is an editable Word file.
