Executive bio template, in a full and a short version
An executive bio is a third-person summary of a senior person's career for a board paper, a shortlist, a pitch or an appointment announcement. This Word template puts it on one page in the firm's brand: photo or initials, name, post-nominals, current title and organisation, areas of expertise, a full biography of two or three paragraphs, up to three career highlights, and a short bio of about 50 words for programmes and announcements. A side panel lists current roles, board and non-executive roles, previous roles, education and languages. Formatix writes it from the executive's CV and leaves out anything the CV does not state.
Search firms write bios all the time: for non-executive and board shortlists, for client pitches, for the announcement once a candidate is appointed. Each bio is usually rewritten by hand from a CV. This template produces both lengths at once, in the same house style every time, and it never adds a board seat or a qualification the CV does not show.

Questions about this template
- What should an executive bio include?
- The current role and organisation, what the person is known for, the main steps of their career, any board or non-executive roles, education and professional qualifications. This template also carries up to three highlights with a stated figure or outcome, the languages the person works in and up to six areas of expertise.
- Why two lengths?
- The full biography, two or three paragraphs and at most about 210 words, is for board papers, shortlists and pitch documents. The short bio, about 50 words, is for event programmes, announcements and profiles where space is tight. Both are written from the same CV, so they never disagree.
- Will it invent board roles or honours?
- No. Board, non-executive, trustee and advisory roles appear only when the CV states them, and post-nominals only when the CV shows them. A senior executive title is never turned into a board seat, and the bio does not use opinions such as "visionary" or "world-class".
- How is it different from a candidate profile?
- A candidate profile presents a candidate for a role: fit, assessment, notice and package. An executive bio is neutral and publishable. It describes the person's career without judging them, so it can go on a board paper or a press release.
- Can I download this template?
- Yes. A free, editable Word version with neutral branding and fictional example executives is on this page, to fill in by hand. To have it rebuilt in your brand and written automatically from a CV, use it in Formatix; what you keep is an editable Word file.
