Academic profile template for university leadership searches
An academic profile presents a candidate for a university or research leadership post, such as a vice-chancellor, pro-vice-chancellor, dean, head of school or institute director, to a selection committee. It condenses a long academic CV into the evidence the committee weighs: appointments, selected publications, research funding, teaching and doctoral supervision, leadership and service, honours and degrees. This Word template sets those out in up to three pages, with key facts for the current post, research field, funding secured and PhD supervision. Formatix fills it from the academic CV and copies publications and grants exactly as the CV gives them.
Academic CVs run to twenty pages, and a selection committee has a dozen to read. The profile is where the search firm shows it has understood the record: the six publications that matter, the grants that show research leadership, and the service that shows the candidate can run an institution.

Questions about this template
- What does an academic profile contain?
- The name with academic title and post-nominals; the current post and institution; key facts; a research summary and research themes; appointments; up to six selected publications with a note of the full record; research funding with funder, amount, period and role; teaching and supervision; leadership and service; honours and awards; degrees; and the consultant's view.
- Which publications are chosen?
- Those the CV marks as key or selected outputs; otherwise recent, significant and first- or last-author work and major books, up to six. Each is copied exactly as the CV gives it, with authors, year, title, venue and details; nothing is completed from memory.
- Are research income and citation figures added up?
- No. Funding amounts, research income, citation counts, h-index and PhD completions are copied as the CV states them. Nothing is totalled, converted or rounded unless the CV already gives the total.
- Does it fit on a few pages?
- Yes. The template holds the profile to three pages at most by limiting each section, such as six appointments, six publications and four grants, so the committee reads the same length for every candidate.
- Is this a download?
- No. The template is built in your brand inside Formatix and filled from the academic CV and your notes; what you download is the finished profile as a Word document or PDF.
